Our strawberry obsession must continue. This is one fruit I can never get enough of. Let’s explore some other cuisine flavor profiles for this gorgeous berry.
The French make a gorgeous Tart aux Fraises, which is crust, custard and topped with fresh strawberries. It’s perfection (I should mention that I adore custard in any situation).
Here is a collection of French Strawberry recipes that includes a Blanc-Manger which is the French equivalent of the Italian Panna Cotta - a milk, vanilla and sugar “pudding” thickened with gelatin. Delicious!
To this subject, I will add a “recipe” I have taught in my French cooking classes - Cassis Soaked Strawberries over Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients: Strawberries, granulated sugar, Creme de Cassis, Vanilla Ice Cream
Wash and stem the strawberries and cut in half and add to a bowl. Sprinkle with a little bit of sugar, stir, and allow to sit for 10 minutes to macerate. Cover almost completely with creme de cassis and stir to coat all of the berries. Allow to marinate for a minimum of 1 hour. Spoon over vanilla ice cream.
And finally, let’s toss in a Greek dessert from Cyprus - Strawberry Coconut & Rosewater Semolina Custard Tart
