Not a potato. Not a yam. Sweet potatoes are so misunderstood. Sweet potatoes are a vining plant in the Morning Glory Botanical Family. Potatoes belong to the Nightshade Botanical Family along with eggplant, peppers and tomatoes. Yams are also a vining species but in a different botanical family altogether, related to grasses. Yams have a dark brown or tan “bark-like” skin, and are very starchy. They originate from West Africa. Sweet potatoes are deliciously, naturally sweet, and come in different colors - white, orange, red and purple.  They originate from Central America. Here’s a wonderful article on the differences between the three for those that want to fall down the botanical rabbit hole (make a cup of tea and have fun!).

Moving on now to the two most important things about sweet potatoes - number one, they are incredibly healthy, and number two, the recipes! Sweet potatoes are really healthy for your gut (and therefore your immune system) and they have anti cancer benefits. Here is a great article from Healthline to give you all the facts!

This week I’m sharing a collection of recipes from America’s Test Kitchen. These recipes range from fries to biscuits to salad to cornbread to pie, and everything in between. There are 30 recipes in all so I’m confident you’ll find something to love. Stock up for Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
